Consumer Reports says you need to make sure the medical alert system company you choose has call centers based in the United States.
Is this a real issue?
Not so much, but not for the reason you might assume.
You definitely want an emergency response call center based in the United States.
But I’ve never seen a company that doesn’t have this. Not if their market is the United States. Maybe there are some fly-by-night companies that do this, but if so, they’re below the level of companies I talk about on this website.
So it’s not anything you really need to be worried about.
But there’s no harm in asking.
A more important question would be whether the call center responders speak your native language. If that’s English, the answer will usually be yet. But if you or your loved one is more comfortable in another language, you’ll want to make sure the call center can respond appropriately.
