So far you’re looking at monitored alerts and you’re focusing on having the best protection at home.
Here’s your next question:
Do you spend virtually all your time in your home, or do you spend time outside?
For example, do you garden or do chores around the house? Do you have a garage or shop that’s either a long way from your living room or is detached from the house?
And even if you spend just a little bit of time outside, take a moment and think through the kinds of activities you do.
- Do you take out the garbage down some steps that get slippery when it rains?
- Or do you sweep off the front concrete steps down to the sidewalk — it’s only three steps but there’s no railing?
- If you have uneven ground or a cluttered yard, these are also trouble areas.
When I look at some people’s houses, it seems a lot more likely that they’ll hurt themselves or fall down when they are outside taking out the garbage than when they are sitting in their chair watching television or going to the kitchen for a snack.
